About SoniqBoom

A retro-styled web audio player that takes audio from anywhere you can find it.

What is it?

SoniqBoom is a single-page web audio player built around the classic retro aesthetic — chunky chrome, neon accents, and a no-nonsense tracklist — but with a modern audio engine under the hood. It plays local files you drag in, streams from YouTube, Google Drive, and SoundCloud, and stitches the whole thing into one searchable, multi-playlist library that lives in your browser.

Why does it exist?

Most web players make you pick a single source. Either it's a "local files only" app, or a YouTube wrapper, or a Spotify client. SoniqBoom treats them all as tracks in the same playlist. Add a song from YouTube, drag in a FLAC from your hard drive, paste a SoundCloud set URL, and they queue up together with the same controls. No accounts, no uploads, no sign-in — everything runs in the browser and persists to your own localStorage and IndexedDB.

How it works

  • Browser-native audio engineLocal files use the standard HTMLAudioElement, with a Web Audio AnalyserNode feeding the spectrum visualization. No servers, no processing — your audio never leaves your machine.
  • Embedded players for streaming sourcesYouTube and SoundCloud play through their official iframe widgets (kept invisible by default). Google Drive streams through a small Next.js proxy route so the file ID never leaks.
  • Local-first persistencePlaylist structure, preferences, accent color, and recent-import history live in localStorage. Audio file blobs live in IndexedDB. Clearing your browser storage is the only way to lose data — there is no cloud account.
  • Portable .amp formatExport any combination of playlists to a single .amp JSON file (just rename it to .json to inspect) and import them on another machine. Only streaming-source tracks survive the trip — local files are skipped, since they're not portable by definition.

What's it good for?

Mixtapes

Build a playlist that mixes local cuts with YouTube chapters and SoundCloud B-sides. Share it as a .amp file and the receiver gets the streaming tracks back as playable links.

Long sessions

Multi-tab playlists, persistent volume, search across every open tracklist. Leave the tab open and it picks up where you left off.

Curating a library

Keep separate playlists for different projects, rename and reorder them, drag tracks between them, and search across all of them with Ctrl/Cmd-F.

Privacy

SoniqBoom does not have a backend that stores your data. The streaming providers (YouTube, SoundCloud, Google) see your IP address when their widgets load — that's inherent to how their embeds work, not something SoniqBoom does on top. Local files never leave your browser.
